This island is located in the San Francisco Bay. It is a part, of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The island lies 1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco. The visitors take a ferry to reach the island. It was once a federal prison. When you reach there, you see the lighthouse and the ruins of yesteryears. The rocks around are blooming with pretty flowers.

Once this place was complete wilderness with sands around and was known as “Outside Lands”. Today, it’s a traveler’s delight to go around the city’s biggest park. It is the home of the California Academy of Sciences. You see a Young Museum. Shop at the West Portal. It is the most visited park. In the garden, you will find blossoms of hydrangea, as well as dahlias. This entire area, is laid out with row houses in plastic-colors, all the way to Great Highway and Ocean Beach. Golden Gate Park is an urban park. It is rectangular in shape. Do visit the Golden Gate Cookie Factory.

 

San Francisco Zoo

The San Francisco Zoo

This zoo is located in the south-western corner of San Francisco. It lies between Lake Merced and the Pacific Ocean. It occupies an area of 100 – ar. The zoo has 197 species of animals. Many of these animals are from Africa. You will also find insects. The children enjoy a lot in this park. Some species that one sees here are the Gorilla, Zebra, Oryx, peafowls, ibis, green anaconda, Polar Bear, the owl, whistling duck, dart frog etc. The children’s area has a miniature train. The zoo also has wildlife shows. An entry fee has to be paid. Children below 3 years are allowed free at the zoo. It is on South Boulevard at 47th Avenue.

North Beach is live at night with music and dancing. Have a gala time on the streets. It has jazz clubs, cabarets, galleries, gelato parlours and family restaurants. All this is within a square mile. North Beach is rich in Italian heritage. In Washington Square, you will find people practicing Tai chi. Visit the Coil Tower, atop Telegraph Hill. This hill has lush green gardens, and for sure, you get amazing views from here.

Lake Merced, is a fresh water lake, and it is surrounded by the parkland. This area is well developed and has the zoo and San Francisco University. West Portals is on the western side of the largest hills of San Francisco. A subway tunnel connects it, to the downtown market street.

 

The tourist can visit the markets, for shopping. One can choose to go to, Stonestown Galleria Shopping Center, Mollie Stones Tower Market and the Miraloma Market. Eating out is not a problem, as you find a number of eateries. In San Francisco, there are a number of good hotels, where the tourist can stay, during their tour to San Francisco.

The tourist will like the climate of San Francisco. The weather, is cool and mild, with wet winters and dry summers. The fall season is a good time to plan a trip to San Francisco. San Francisco attracts, many a movie makers and this you will find a backdrop of San Francisco in many films.

The San Francisco Airport is the largest on the west coast of Unites States of America. It is located, in San Bruno, outside the city of San Francisco. To reach downtown, which is about 21 kilometers, the tourist can take a taxi, rapid transit train or a shuttle.
