It is also known as ‘Kaas Pathar’. Traveling is a passion be it any reason. Your mind will be refreshed by the colourful surroundings of nature at Kaas Plateau.

It is 1,200 m above sea level and is spread over an area of about 17.92 sq. km. The floral landscape at Kaas changes every 15 days and each time you get to see new flowers with sharp colours bloom all around. You can visit it as the rains recede.

This ‘Valley of Flowers’ is in the state of Maharashtra. The tourist could put up in a hotel at Satara that is at a distance of 25 km or at the little hill town of Panchgani.

From the table land you get a view of the lush green Sahyadri Mountains and the Koyna Dam. The riot of colours blue, pink, white, yellow, red are just mind-boggling. There is a path which takes you to the array of colours.

‘Kaas Pathar’ got its name from the Kas plant. This valley of flowers is now declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Kaas is about 250 km from Mumbai. It’s the laterite rock which spreads like a plateau in the Werstern Ghats. It transforms itself into a huge flower bed. Do view this amazing wonder between August and October every year.

You name it and it’s there. Orchid herbs, flowers, shrubs, etc., of all shades and hues spread out on the tableland like a colourful bright carpet. The area around is sparsely populated. Little hamlets and their hospitable inmates direct you and warn you not to venture too far into the forest.

1. Thoseghar Waterfalls are some 20 km away from Kaas. Climb on a platform and see the awesome 1,000 feet waterfall during the rainy season.

2. Sajjangad Fort lies close to the Kaas Lake which is also a picnic spot. One could also visit the Kanher Dam.
