Panchgani

It is in the Satara district of the state of Maharashtra. It is at an altitude of 1,334 m. Panchgani a close neighbour of Mahableshwar about 18 km east of it. The name Panchgani refers to the five hills on which this little town is built and Gani means settlement. You will see and walk around beneath the shade of groves of casuarina and silver oak. The Krishna Valley view from west to east is enchanting. One can see hamlets, green fields and the backwaters of Dhom Dam along the northern ridge of the mountain. Walk the coastal plains and enjoy the bracing climate which suits all age groups. The visitor can take a pick of fresh strawberries from the farms and so also jams and crushes.

1. Sydney Point

It faces the Krishna Valley resting on a small hillock. The views are fantastic from this point.

2. Table Land

This lies on the eastern side of this idyllic hill station. It is at a height of 60 meters and is a laterite rock that is the second longest plateau in Asia. You can get a view of some caves from here.

3. Sajjangadh

Sajjangadh is about 10 km from Panchgani. Here you will find the Samadhi of Ramdas Swami, who was the guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

4. Wai

Wai is a small holy town 12 km Panchgani. It is situated on banks of the River Krishna. It has some ancient temples and the Buddhist caves at Lonara.

5. Other attractions are Harrison’s Folly, Devil’s Kitchen, Baby Point, Meherbaba Caves and Parsi Point.
